K-9 unit tracks down driver

following crash

MINA — On Aug. 7 at roughly 11:50 p.m., deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Mann Road. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene to find that the vehicle had left the roadway and struck a utility pole, severing it.

The operator had allegedly fled the scene and Sheriff’s Office K-9 Link was then deployed on a human odor track. K-9 Link tracked 3/4 mile down the highway into a wooded area, where a female subject was found hiding.

The female subject was identified as Cassandra K. Hoitink, 37, of North East, PA, and she was taken into custody. Hoitink was arrested and charged with DWI, DWI per se, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile phone and moved from lane unsafely. Hoitink was processed and released with citations directing her to appear in town of Mina Court at a later date.
