City police probe alleged shooting

Dunkirk police confirmed Friday they were called to Brooks Memorial Hospital emergency room at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. No further details were available as the investigation is ongoing. Most of the activity surrounding the alleged violent incident was being focused at Courtney and Nevins streets in the city of Dunkirk on Thursday. A witness who lives nearby arrived after the incident occurred and was questioned by police. At that time, the police told the witness there was nothing to be concerned about at the moment, but they were investigating an incident.

Buffalo driver charged in school bus collision

NORTH COLLINS — The driver of a pickup truck has been charged after colliding with a school bus Wednesday that resulted in minor injuries for three.

At 3:12 p.m., Erie County sheriff’s deputies and members of the Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit responded to the crash on Shirley Road at Ketchum Road. Deputies said Joseph Cala, 37, of Buffalo ran a stop sign and struck the bus. The force of the impact forced the bus onto its side.

There were three occupants in the bus, the driver, and aide, and one student, and they were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. Cala was also treated at the scene and later released.

Cala is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, the license was invalid due to an alcohol-related conviction, and three separate vehicle and traffic law violation including failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield the right of way, and operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver.

The crash unit is still investigating the incident.

The deputy who serves as the School Resource Officer for North Collins’ school district also responded to the scene.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff

PERSIA — A car-deer accident on Broadway Road caused damage but no injuries. Deputies said the accident occurred around 11:43 p.m. Feb. 3 and involved Dylan M. Stefan.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

≤ ELLERY — On Wednesday, Kelly Berenguer, 40, of Ashville was arrested for alleged seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies conducted a warrant check at a residence. Deputies located Berenguer inside the residence. Berenguer had an outstanding warrant. Berenguer was taken into custody and transported to Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment.

≤ JAMESTOWN — On Wednesday, Joshua D. Pelfrey, 30 was arrested for alleged first-degree criminal contempt, aggravated family offense and trespassing.

At approximately 12:26 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies conducted a warrant check in the City of Jamestown. Pelfrey was located on Cherry Street. Pelfrey had active warrants for his arrest for failure to appear on charges. Pelfrey was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail and will answer his charges on a later date.

≤ On Jan. 25, Timothy P. Kulig, 32, of Dunkirk was charged with DWI, uninspected motor vehicle and inadequate exhaust.

≤ On Jan. 25, Jesus Ramos, 35, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and insufficient tail lights.

≤ On Jan. 27, Daniel M. Strong Jr., 24, of Dunkirk was charged with second-degree harassment.

≤ On Jan. 28, Shawn Hurley, 36, of Fredonia was charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny.
