Charges pending after youths found in stolen vehicle
Charges are pending against several youths following a brief police pursuit in the city of Dunkirk involving a stolen vehicle.
In a news release, the Dunkirk Police Department said officers came across a vehicle Tuesday around 4 p.m. that had previously been reported stolen. The vehicle was spotted near Maple Avenue and West Courtney Street.
Officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen, and attempted to make a traffic stop. The operator failed to comply, and led officers on a brief pursuit before stopping in the area of Park Avenue, near East Second Street.
Five juveniles were located inside the vehicle. The youths were identified and turned over to a parent or guardian.
The driver was questioned by police, while one of the youths was evaluated for a possible panic attack at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
Dunkirk police said the incident remains under investigation. Charges are pending through Family Court.
