Man charged with arson in hotel fire

A man who was living at a hotel has been charged with arson in Fredonia.

According to information from the Fredonia Police Department, Jason L. Maisonet, 38, is facing second-degree arson in connection with the mattress blaze at the Econo Lodge Room 222 on Bennett Road.

Officers evacuated tenants from the hotel while the fire was put out. An investigation into the origin of the fire by Fredonia Fire Chief Ryan Walker revealed it was suspicious in nature.

Maisonet was arraigned in Mayville and bail was set at $100,000 cash and $200,000 property bond.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

¯ Matthew J. Plucinski, 34, of Grand Island, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, DWI, speed in zone and moving from lane unsafely. Deputies observed a speeding vehicle at 2:21 a.m. on Aug. 29 on East Main Street in the village of Fredonia. The driver was identified as Plucinski. He is scheduled to appear in Fredonia Village Court later.

Dunkirk Police Department

¯ On Aug. 20, Julie L. Sweet, 46, of Fredonia was charged with suspended/revoked registration, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, uninspected motor vehicle and operating without insurance.

¯ On Aug. 20, Joseph M. Wicks, 34, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

¯ On Aug. 21, Jose Vazquez-Camacho, 32, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and inadequate tail lamps.

¯ On Aug. 24, Luis A. Irizarry Jr., 33, of Jamestown was charged with petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 24, Juan L. Resto Jr., 35 was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

¯ On Aug. 25, Giovanni A. Pena, 34, of Dunkirk was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing.

¯ Kenyis Gonzalez-Torres, 20, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, failure to keep right, unregistered motor vehicle and improper plates.

¯ On Aug. 26, Hector O. DeJesus, 21, of Dunkirk was charged with petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 26, Heather C. Gee, 29 was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic, littering and trespass.

¯ On Aug. 26, Angelo R. Bomasuto, 52 was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic, littering and trespass.

¯ On Aug. 27, Eddie Marshall Jr., 26, of Dunkirk was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

¯ On Aug. 27, John P. Loveland, 60, of Dunkirk was charged with petit larceny.

Fredonia Police Department

¯ On Aug. 3, Richard Vargas, 37, of Fredonia was charged with third-degree burglary and criminal mischief.

¯ On Aug. 12, Nicholas Hycner, 23, of Forestville was charged with petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 13, Michael McQuiggan, 58, of Dunkirk was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

¯ On Aug. 18, Govitza Castro-Maldonado, 43, of Dunkirk was charged with two counts of petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 20, Shawn Taylor, 39, of Fredonia was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

¯ On Aug. 23, Caitlin Arnold, 28, of Jamestown was charged with petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 23, Aron Sikes, 27, of Fredonia was charged with petit larceny.

¯ On Aug. 23, Antonio Lorenzo, 33, of Fredonia was charged with petit larceny.
