Cattaraugus man dies in Little Valley crash

LITTLE VALLEY — A 44-year-old Cattaraugus man has died after losing control of his car on Route 353.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies report the accident occurred just after 6 p.m. Saturday. Deputies said the driver of the Dodge 2020 Challenger lost control of his vehicle, hit a guard rail and then traveled North across the road and hit an oncoming vehicle.

The vehicle traveled off the east side of the road before coming to rest in a field. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and no other injuries were reported.

Little Valley Fire Department and Seneca Nation EMS assisted at the scene. The investigation is continuing.

K-9, deputies locate missing hiker

ARKWRIGHT — A hiker who went missing around 1 a.m. Sunday was located by Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and its K-9.

Deputies were notified of a missing hiker, a 36-year-old male from Buffalo, in the area of Burnham Road. K-9 Link was deployed to search for the subject.

At about 3 a.m., K-9 Link did locate the subject about 1 mile into a wooded area near Arkwright Falls. Deputies were able to navigate with the subject out to Park Road, where the subject was evaluated and returned to his camp safely.

POLAND — A Randolph woman is facing numerous charges after an alleged assault in Kennedy.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report they were called to a residence on Mud Creek Road around 9:30 p.m. Friday for a report of an assault in progress.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined that Carrie Congdon, 47, arrived unwanted at the residence of another and proceeded to assault a subject in the driveway. Congdon then proceeded to force entry into the residence and assault a second a subject while preventing them from calling 911 for emergency assistance.

Congdon was taken into custody and charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Further investigation found that Congdon had drove to the residence while intoxicated. Congdon was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated and is being held in the Chautauqua County Jail pending centralized arraignment.
