Two facing charges after raid

CHERRY CREEK – A Cherry Creek man faces federal drug charges while a second man faces local charges after a raid at 6900 Main St., Cherry Creek, on Tuesday.

At 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s SWAT Team and members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force served a Search Warrant at 6900 Main St., Cherry Creek, the residence of Gregory J. Schroeder. Schroeder, the subject of a federal Drug Enforcement Agency arrest warrant, was arrested by SWAT Team members after they made entry to 6900 Main St. and charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Other people were found in the residence as well, including Raymond M. Provorse. Provorse was charged on an unrelated task force investigation with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; second-degree criminal using of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, a class A misdemeanor.

Both men were taken to the Chautauqua County jail by deputies from the patrol division of the Sheriff’s Office. Upon the completion of the search warrant the other people in the home were released. The Cherry Creek Code Enforcement Officer was requested at the location to inspect it prior to deputies leaving. Upon the completion of his inspection, he advised the residence would be deemed unsafe and uninhabitable.

Schroeder remains in the Chautauqua County Jail on his federal charges. Provorse was arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment Program and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
