Pair rescued from vehicle in water

CONEWANGO — Volunteer firefighters in Cattaraugus County helped two people get out of their vehicle that had overturned and was partially submerged in water following a crash over the weekend.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office detailed the incident, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Route 62 in Conewango. Deputies found the vehicle on its side in a ditch while also partially in water.

Two people, who were not identified, were assisted out of the vehicle with the assistance of the Conewango Fire Department. They were evaluated by Randolph Regional EMS.

¯ FREWSBURG — Brandon S. Turkeurst, 38, of Frewsburg, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Deputies checked on the well-being of a person reportedly standing in traffic on Ivory Street in Frewsburg at 6:40 p.m. Saturday. Turkeurst was found to be disorderly and while being taken into custody resisted arrested. He was later released with tickets to appear in Carroll Town Court later.

¯ GERRY — Kelly J. Muphy, 40, of Gerry, was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right and speed not reasonable and prudent. Deputies responded at 8 p.m. Thursday to a single-vehicle crash on Old Chautauqua Road in the town of Gerry. Murphy was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for an evaluation, and an investigation found that she was allegedly intoxicated. Murphy is scheduled to appear in Gerry Town Court later.

¯ FRENCH CREEK — Samantha E. Ion, 21, of Erie, Pa., was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal of roadside breath test and moving from lane unsafely. Deputies located a vehicle in the ditch at 8 p.m. Saturday on Route 426 in the town of French Creek. Ion was found to be intoxicated following an investigation. She was released with tickets to appear in French Creek Town Court later.

¯ WESTFIELD — Tyler J. Stakelum, 32, of Mayville, was charged with third-degree assault and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Deputies and Westfield police responded at 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the town of Westfield for a reported altercation. Stakelum allegedly caused physical contact with another person, resulting in injury. Stakelum also was reportedly found with a controlled substance. Stakelum is scheduled to appear in Westfield Town Court later.
