Silver Creek woman charged in assault on officer

A Silver Creek woman is facing charges of assault against a Buffalo police officer after allegedly striking him with a bullhorn Saturday morning.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced Tuesday that 21-year-old Savannah E. Karcz of Silver Creek was arraigned Sunday morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Kevin Keane on one count of second-degree assault and one count of exposure of a person.

Prosecutors say at approximately 9:58 a.m., Buffalo police officers were blocking the Ring Road entrance to Delaware Park when the defendant attempted to drive around the officer’s parked patrol vehicle. The defendant is accused of exiting her vehicle, hitting the patrol vehicle with her hands, and removing her shirt to expose her breasts. It is further alleged that the defendant yelled at the officer through a bullhorn. When the officer attempted to move the object away from his face, the defendant allegedly struck him in the left side of the head with the bullhorn. The officer was taken to ECMC for pain and swelling to his head.

Karcz is to return on Thursday, July 1 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. She was released under supervision.

If convicted of all charges, Karcz faces a maximum of seven years in prison. Flynn commendeds the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.
