¯ FRENCH CREEK — Adam M. Mertins, 28, of Montrose, Pa., was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. Moriah L. Hughes, 29, of Montrose, Pa., was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Deputies responded at 4:23 p.m. Monday to Old Road in the town of French Creek for a suspicious situation. An investigation found that Mertins was allegedly in possession of bath salts and a hypodermic instrument. Hughes was found with Xanax. Both will appear in French Creek Town Court later.

¯ POMFRET — Daniel H. Hornburg, 40, of Stockton, was charged with driving while ability impaired by use of drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and moving from lane unsafely. Deputies were called at 2:35 a.m. Monday to check a vehicle in the ditch on Fredonia Stockton Road in the town of Pomfret. Hornburg, the driver, was allegedly found to be impaired by drugs. He is scheduled to appear in Pomfret Town Court later.

¯ GERRY — A Gerry man is facing assault charges after seriously injuring someone early Tuesday.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded along with Gerry volunteer firefighters around 12:50 a.m. for an injured person. The incident occurred on Gerry Ellington Road, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

An investigation found that 29-year-old Douglas Woodard allegedly struck another person with a sharp object, “causing serious physical injury,” the Sheriff’s Office said. The victim was transported to UPMC Chautauqua then UPMC Hamot for treatment.

Woodard was transported to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment on a second-degree assault charge.

Dunkirk Police Department

¯ Brandon Vangiesen, 30, of Westfield, was charged June 8 with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

¯ Timothy Kelley, 40, of Dunkirk, was charged June 8 with second-degree criminal trespassing and petit larceny.

¯ Alicia Christopher, 33, of Dunkirk, was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct.

¯ Andrew Studley, 40, of Dunkirk, was charged Friday with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a vehicle inspection violation.

¯ Mehdi Ghaderi, 80, of Dunkirk, was charged Sunday with forcible touching.
