Franklinville man charged in attempted murder

State Police at Machias have charged a 19-year-old Franklinville man with attempted murder after an incident Friday night.

Craig J. Bubak, 19 was charged with one count each of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after troopers were dispatched Friday to a menacing complaint with a shot fired from Ischua Creek under the roadway bridge on Elm Street in the town of Franklinville. Troopers and the Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies located Bubak who was holding a 9mm polymer-based style pistol, “ghost gun,” with no serial number on Elm Street Bridge.

After failing to comply with orders the Cattaraugus County deputies tased Bubak, which allowed an arrest to be made without any loss of life. Bubak was treated for injuries due to the taser and processed at Machias. Further investigation revealed that Bubak threatened multiple people in that area and then fired one shot at a victim that missed.

Bubak was arraigned at the town of Ellicottville Court was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail on $7,500 cash bail, $12,000 bond.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Violent Crime Investigative Team, State Police Forensic Identification Unit, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office and the Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF

— STOCKTON — Sheriff’s deputies responded to an address on Putnam Road for a well-being check on Thursday morning. Further investigation found that Heather M. Dempsey, 32, of Stockton, allegedly harassed another individual and threatened them if they attempted to contact the police. Dempsey was charged with third-degree coercion and second-degree harassment and was taken to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

— CHAUTAUQUA — Deputies stopped a vehicle on Stockton-Hartfield Road for an alleged traffic violation around 8:15 p.m. Friday. Through an investigation, it was determined the operator of the vehicle, 27-year-old Samuel J. Klotz of Rochester, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Klotz was placed in custody charged with DWI, DWI per se, and speed in excess of 55 mph.

Klotz was released with citations to appear in the Town of Chautauqua Court at a later date.
