DERBY MAN IDENTIFIED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY TRAIN

FARNHAM — Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announced the individual struck and killed by a train in the village of Farnham has been identified.

The victim was identified Monday as Manuel Battaglia, 63, of Derby.

Deputies responded to a report that an individual found human remains and clothing along the train tracks on Saturday.

Garcia wishes to thank the public for their assistance with the investigation.

Railroad police, New York State Police and Seneca Nation of Indians’ fire personnel assisted the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ HANOVER — Justin R. Harroun, 28, of Angola, was charged with second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Deputies responded at 8:10 p.m. Sunday to an address on Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Hanover after receiving a 911 call for three males shouting at each other. An investigation found that Harroun allegedly got into an altercation with another person, striking them in the face and causing an injury. During the altercation, Harroun also allegedly prevented the other person from calling 911. The other male was later transported to the hospital for treatment. Harroun was processed and released with tickets to appear in Hanover Town Court later.

CATTARAUGUS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ SOUTH DAYTON — Jessica D. Howard, 39, of South Dayton, was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Deputies responded at 12:52 a.m. Sunday to the village of South Dayton for a reported crash. Deputies later located Howard, who allegedly left the scene of the crash and was exhibiting signs of intoxication. Howard is scheduled to appear in South Dayton Village Court later.

¯ Cody P. Worthington, 29, and Samantha B. Steiner, 32, both of Little Valley, were each charged with second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Worthington and Steiner reportedly had fentanyl drugs in their Little Valley apartment that were allegedly consumed by an 11-moth-old child. On Nov. 17, the child was found unconscious and unresponsive but became alert after two doses of Narcan. Worthington was arraigned in Little Valley Town Court and remanded to jail in lieu of $1,000 bail, $2,000 bond. Steiner was arraigned and remanded in lieu of $2,500 bail, $5,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court later.
