Investigation ongoing after south county doctor charged

Oludotun O. Adegoke

A local doctor who practices family medicine is accused of having sexual intercourse with a patient while acting as that person’s health care provider.

Oludotun O. Adegoke, 36, was taken into custody Friday on a charge of third-degree rape, a class E felony in New York. He was arraigned in Jamestown City Court on Saturday.

According to the felony complaint filed by Det. Richard Hooks of the Jamestown Police Department, Adegoke “did intentionally and knowingly engage in sexual intercourse with the victim. … The victim was incapable of consent due to being the patient of the defendant who was acting as (the victim’s) health care provider at the time of the incident.”

The complaint, portions of which are redacted to shield the victim’s name and gender, states that the alleged crime occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14. It also lists the address as 15 S. Main St. in Jamestown, Great Lakes Physician Practice, where Adegoke practices according to a phone listing of its medical providers.

A person who answered the phone at Great Lakes Physician Practice referred questions on Adegoke to a UPMC spokeswoman. Adegoke had been affiliated with UPMC, though by Monday his name was removed from the hospital’s website.

In a brief statement to The Post-Journal regarding the doctor, UPMC said, “This individual does not have clinical assignments and is not currently seeing patients at UPMC. Since this is an open law enforcement investigation, please contact the Jamestown Police Department for additional information.”

On Friday, police executed a search warrant at Adegoke’s Lakewood residence with the assistance of the Lakewood-Busti Police Department. He was taken into custody “as a result of the investigation,” the department said in a news release.

Adegoke is being represented by attorney Andrew Brautigam, who requested that a preliminary hearing originally scheduled for this Thursday be adjourned. No new date has been set for the preliminary hearing, a city court clerk said.

Brautigam declined to comment on behalf of his client when reached Tuesday.

Third-degree rape carries a prison sentence of up to four years if convicted.

Jamestown police said the investigation was ongoing; anyone with any information is asked to call the department at 716-338-0029 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 716- 483-TIPS (8477).
