ELLICOTT POLICE DEPARTMENT

¯ ELLICOTT — A Poland man wanted in connection with the theft of a trailer was willing to jump in the river to avoid law enforcement.

On Monday, Ellicott Police were notified an 18-foot cargo trailer had been stolen from a Falconer business. A male subject was observed on video surveillance driving a four-wheeler and the trailer on the railroad tracks toward the town of Poland.

Officers recognized the four-wheeler as the same make and model Blaydon F. Niles, 31, was known to operate. Officers located the trailer in a wooded area behind Niles’ residence on Hartson Road in Poland with the four-wheeler was still hooked to the trailer. Niles fled from the scene and a warrant was issued by the Ellicott Court.

On Tuesday, Ellicott officers observed Niles riding a bicycle in the village of Falconer. When officers attempted to stop Niles, he rode the bicycle toward the Chadakoin River and jumped in. Officers were able to locate Niles downstream and he was taken into custody.

Niles was arraigned in Ellicott court where Judge Marilyn Gerace revoked his bail from several previous open cases, and subsequently set new bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. Niles was transported to Chautauqua County Jail.

¯ FALCONER — Before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Ellicott Police were called to assist the Probation Department for a check on Ashley L. Inserra, 35, 2 E. Main St. While performing their check, officers with probation observed a tin-foil wrapper with a white powdery substance inside, which turned out to be methamphetamine.

Inserra was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and is to be in Ellicott court later.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

¯ WESTFIELD –Multiple agencies in Chautauqua County executed a search warrant in the Village of Westfield during the morning hours of Tuesday at 31 Cottage St. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT made entry into the residence and were assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, village of Westfield Police Department, city of Dunkirk Police Department and City of Jamestown Police Department.

As a result of the search Investigators seized a quantity of fentanyl, methamphetamine and the prescription drug clonazepam. Kelly Briggs, 49, and Richard Young, 54, were both charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and will be in village court later.

Authorities continue to ask members of the community to call and report suspicious or narcotics related activity within their neighborhoods. ¯ KENNEDY — At about 3:31 p.m. May 6, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 62, in the town of Poland for an alleged traffic violation. The operator was identified as Gary B. Anderson, 64, of Kennedy. After investigation, Anderson was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and speed over the 55 mph zone. He will be in Poland town court later.
