TRAGIC CRASH CLAIMS TWO LIVES IN CATTARAUGUS COUNTY
FREEDOM — State Police at Machias say a tragic two-vehicle crash involving a brother and sister that killed a teenager and 6-year-old.
Around 12:07 p.m. Saturday, troopers say an investigation into the head-on collision on Freedom Road determined that a 2006 Dodge Ram traveling westbound and crossed the center line purposely, losing control and struck an oncoming 2005 Ford Focus traveling east. The operator of the Ford, Dahlia J. Klink, 24 of Freedom, and a 4-year-old passenger were taken by Mercy Flight for serious injuries.
The other two passengers in the Ford, Havanah S. Lopez, 17 of Java and Molly Kibler, 6 of Freedom were deceased at the scene. The operator of the Dodge, Evan R. Klink, 21 of Freedom was treated for injuries then transported to State Police at Warsaw for an evaluation and the passenger of the Dodge, Cameron Klink, 19 of Freedom was transported by Mercy Flight with serious injuries.
New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office and Arcade Fire Department are on scene and assisting.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
— Four Jamestown residents are facing drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop early Friday morning. Officers, the Violent Crimes Unit and the K-9 Unit made the stop at North Main and West Ninth streets. During the course of the investigation, officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle who were identified as Dion J. Carr, 38,
Kayla M. Slagle, 33, Nicole C. Grimm, 26, and T’anna Robinson, 31.
Officers observed Grimm consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. When officers attempted to issue a citation for the traffic infraction, Grimm provided the name of another person causing her to be taken into custody. In a search incident to arrest, officers located a small quantity of cocaine on her person. A search of the vehicle also resulted in officers locating a loaded handgun with an extended magazine that none of the occupants were in legal possession of.
In a search incident to arrest officers also located a quantity of Cocaine in the possession of Slagle. Once Carr was taken into custody he attempted to conceal a quantity of cocaine in the rear seat of a marked police vehicle to prevent officers from locating it.
All four subjects were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal Possession of a weapon. Grimm, Slagle and Carr were all additionally charged with seventh-degree criminal Possession of a controlled substance. Grimm was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation.
Due to Carr’s attempt to conceal the narcotics he was additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence.
— Rudy L. Ryen, 46, of Jamestown is facing criminal obstruction of breathing and blood circulation and second-degree harassment charges after an incident early Sunday. Jamestown police report they responded to a domestic incident on Fifth Street. Through an investigation, it was found that Ryen held a female victim against the wall by her throat during an argument.
Officers placed Ryen in to custody without incident and while escorting him to the patrol vehicle, he spit at the victim. He was then transported to the city jail and held pending arraignment.
— A Jamestown man wanted on warrants is in custody after a brief foot chase. At around 6:13 p.m. Saturday, officers observed Justin M. Rowe, 23, on the north side. Rowe had confirmed charges of third-degree burglary and petit larceny. Officers advised Rowe to put his hands behind his back at which time he ran before being taken into custody.
He was additionally charged with resisting arrest and is being held pending arraignment.
— A case of an incorrect identity, weapon and drugs led to charges for a 30-year-old city man. Around 12:11 a.m. Friday, officers stopped a male on a bicycle for a city code violation on Foote Avenue near
Victoria Avenue. Officers spoke to the male who identified himself as Zachary Franklin. Through investigation, it was found that the male, now identified by officers as Hernandez, misrepresented his identity to evade arrest, as he had multiple confirmed warrants out of the Jamestown Police Department.
Hernandez was taken into custody on his warrants and transported to the Jamestown city jail. Upon inventorying his
property, Hernandez was found to be in possession of a switchblade, and a quantity of methamphetamine. Hernandez was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon due to a prior crime conviction, second-degree criminal impersonation and seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substance. He was also issued a Jamestown city code summons for the violation. Hernandez was held in the Jamestown city jail pending arraignment.
