Sheriff warns of phone scams

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents about scam artists reportedly calling and stating that they are from Publisher’s Clearinghouse.

“They are notifying the individual that they have won and are requesting processing fees,” the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a news release. During the conversation, they are arranging electronic payment or a meeting place to receive the payment in person. Do not give out any personal information over the phone. If such a call is received, residents are encouraged to call their local police agency.”
