DUNKIRK MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING POLICE CHASE

A Dunkirk man was arrested on drug charges following a police chase.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday around 1:15 p.m. deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on South Roberts Road in the Town of Sheridan. The vehicle failed to comply and lead investigators on a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle traveled through the towns of Sheridan, Arkwright and into Pomfret. The vehicle came to rest on Spoden Road in the Town of Pomfret.

The operator was identified as Philip A. Decker, 26 of Dunkirk. Through investigation, Decker was allegedly found to be operating his motor vehicle impaired by drugs. A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed Decker to be in possession of 19 grams of methamphetamine, a small quantity of cocaine and a brass knuckle knife.

Decker was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal using drug paraphernalia.

Decker was arraigned at the county jail where he was released on his own recognizance.

ONE INJURED AFTER JET WATERCRAFT COLLISION

CHAUTAUQUA — A pair of 20-year-olds were involved in a personal jet watercraft incident with one sustaining injuries on Saturday afternoon.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report Daniel I. Miller of Panama and Andrew R. Wengerd of Clymer were operating the vessels at a moderate speed and circling each other around 2:15 p.m. near Prendergast Point. They lost visual contact and one struck the other broadside causing extensive hull damage to one watercraft. The primary vessel was not damaged. The vessel struck broadside was operated by Wengerd. He sustained a large laceration to his foot and a possible broken toe, and initial shock, which was treated at the scene by deputies and friends. He stated he did not want any medical personnel called and would care for himself.

CATTARAUGUS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

– YORKSHIRE – Zachery M. Burdic, 31, of College Street, Gowanda was arrested May 30 and charged with third-degree unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and other vehicle and traffic charges after an investigation into a stolen motorcycle on Route 240 in the town of Ashford. It is alleged that deputies attempted to pull Burdic over on the motorcycle but he instead fled. Pursuit was initiated and completed on Route 16 in the town of Yorkshire.

– LITTLE VALLEY – Steven Decapua, 54, of Perrysburg was arrested May 31 on a warrant issued out of the Cattaraugus County Court. The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office that Decapua was in the Chautauqua County Jail on unrelated charges. He was transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail where he is awaiting his future court date.
