Crews rescue

overturned kayaker

BARCELONA — A kayaker whose vessel overturned was rescued Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3:25 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the incident in Lake Erie near the Dan Reed Pier in the town of Westfield. Deputies and Westfield Police Department were able to get to the pier and observed the male at least 400 yards out who was in distress holding onto his kayak.

The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team was dispatched to the scene. Once on scene they were able to rescue the male from the water and return him to land where he was checked out by EMS and released.

Dunkirk man charged

after fight

A 19-year-old city resident is facing charges after a fight earlier this month.

Around 9:12 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, city of Dunkirk Police responded to an address on the 700 block of Main Street. Upon arrival officers could hear an altercation in an upstairs apartment and a female yelling for help. Officers forced entry into the residence and as they did the suspect, later identified as Sage M. Bistrisky, jumped out of a second story window.

Officers were able to quickly take him into custody outside. It was determined that Bistrisky had struck the victim and refused to let her leave the residence. He also damaged property belonging to the victim and the window when he jumped through it. Bistrisky was transported to a hospital for injuries sustained and a warrant was requested by officers.

Around 6:11 p.m. Wednesday, officers located Bistrisky and took him into custody. He was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

JAMESTOWN POLICE

– Matthew K. Ducayne, 35, of Jamestown was charged with failure to keep right, driving while intoxicated, open container, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment at 11:50 p.m. Oct. 21 on Hall Avenue. Police report finding a vehicle running while occupied, parked half on the terrace and half in the street. Officers tried to make contact with the driver, but say he was sleeping and unresponsive while the car was still in drive. Officers got into the car, put it in park, shut it off and woke the driver. Ducayne was charged and taken to the city jail, where he allegedly became disorderly and threw a metal trash can at an officer that hit a computer. Ducayne was kept in the city jail until he could be arraigned due to his level of intoxication, according to police.

– Teresa A. Rooney was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance at 2:41 a.m. Oct. 23 after officers responded to East Sixth and Pine streets. Rooney had active arrest warrants, according to a police report. After a search, Rooney was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamines and pills that were another controlled substance. Rooney was taken to the city jail until she could be arraigned.

– John T. Peterson, 40, of Randolph and Jamica L. Maisonet, 29, of Jamestown were charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance at 6:56 p.m. Oct. 23 after officers pulled a vehicle over at West Sixth and Clinton streets. Police allege Peterson and Maisonet were in possession of cocaine. They were charged and released with an appearance ticket.
