GARAGE SUSTAINS MINOR DAMAGE IN FIRE

A small fire Monday afternoon caused minor damage to a garage in the city of Dunkirk.

Firefighters report at 4:54 p.m., they were dispatched to a possible garage fire behind 765 Washington Ave. Firefighters found a small fire on the exterior of the garage that extended to the interior of the structure. The fire was reported and partially extinguished by a neighbor. Firefighters performed overhaul, checked for extensions, and extinguished the rest of the fire using water cans.

The garage and equipment inside suffered minor damage and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be dumping of ashes next to the garage from a campfire.

The City of Dunkirk Fire Department is reminding residents it is illegal to have any outdoor campfires or open burns within the city. The cooking or preparation of food by outdoor fire is permitted.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

– Patrick E. Olmstead, 28, of North Port, Fla., was charged Friday with second-degree criminal contempt around 10:20 p.m. It is alleged that he violated an Order of Protection in the town of Pomfret. Olmstead was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment where he will answer to the alleged charge.

– RIPLEY – Shantelle Evans, 28, of Jamestown was charged Monday with Driving While Intoxicated, DWI – Leandra’s Law, speed not reasonable and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. At around 6:15 p.m. Evans was involved in a single motor vehicle accident on Route 76 around 6:15 p.m. She was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries and later ticketed. She will answer to the charges in Ripley Town Court.

– LILY DALE – Joshua J. Spence, 33, of 14 Cottage Row, Cassadaga was charged with second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief Tuesday around 9 a.m. It is alleged that he intentionally damaged property and harassed another individual. He was taken to the county jail for processing.

JAMESTOWN POLICE

– Jamie A Clifton Jr, 18, of Jamestown was charged with resisting arrest at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday after officers patrolling the city’s south side reportedly saw a man in a mask pushing a black motorcycle down a side street. Officers attempted to stop the man, at which point he allegedly dropped the motorcycle and ran toward the Chadakoin River. Officers swiftly located the male laying in the river near the west bank. Officers gave the man verbal commands to exit the river. While exiting the river the male attempted to discard an imitation Sig-Sauer P320 BB Gun which was located by officers. Officers were able to identify the man as Jamie Clifton Jr. Clifton was charged and taken to the city jail before he was released with a ticket to be in Jamestown City Court later.

-Pedro F Rosa, 50, of Jamestown was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation at 10:51 p.m. Monday after officers responded to an east side address for a reported domestic dispute. Rosa allegedly grabbed another person by the neck and applied pressure. Rosa was found at the scene and taken to the city jail until he could be arraigned.

LAKEWOOD-BUSTI POLICE

– Lawrence F. Delong, 59, of Jamestown was charged with DWi, failure to stop at a stop sign and speed not reasonable and prudent at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 after officers responded to East Terrace and Pennsylvania avenues for a reported accident. DeLong was allegedly intoxicated and caused the accident. He was taken to the Lakewood-Busti Police Department to be processed and will be in Busti Town Court later.
