Postal worker from Angola sentenced for stealing mail
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that Christopher Porter, 37, of Angola, who was convicted of theft of mail by an officer or employee, was sentenced to serve two years probation and 100 hours of community service by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, who handled the case, stated that between 2021 and May 2022, Porter was employed by the United States Postal Service as a City Carrier, assigned to the West Seneca Post Office.
In October 2021, Porter stole an envelope containing a Wegmans gift card and a Target gift card, which he gave to his wife.
In addition, on various dates in March 2022, Porter opened envelopes and mail and rifled through the mail items, delaying their delivery.
The sentencing is a result of an investigation by the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, Northeast Area Field Office, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Modafferi.
