Bus involved in minor mishap

Emergency crews responded to an accident involving a vehicle and school bus.

According to scanner reports, the incident happened in the town of Pomfret on Route 20 east of the roundabout with seven students aboard. Upon arrival all, including the students, were reported to be OK at the time. The incident occurred around 8 a.m.

Fredonia Fire Department was one of the responders.

DUNKIRK POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Around 1:39 a.m. Tuesday, Dunkirk police observed a vehicle traveling south on Central Avenue without head lamps or tail lamps illuminated. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the operator to be Keith D. Martel. Martel displayed signs of impairment along with an odor of intoxicants emanating from the vehicle; Officers conducted standardized field sobriety testing which Martel failed. Martel was taken into custody for DWI and issued several traffic tickets.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— HANOVER – At approximately 10:34 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to an altercation on Buffalo Road. Upon investigation, 33-year-old Rebekka I. Melendez-Bane is alleged to have violated an order of protection, along with intentionally striking another individual in the presence of a child less than 17 years old. Melendez-Bane was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, endangering the welfare of a child, and second-degree harassment. She was later transported to county jail for the centralized arraignment.
