JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENTMENT
– Brandon L. Calkins, 39, of Jamestown was charged Feb. 14 with second-degree harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child. According to police, at about 2:04 p.m., officers responded to a southside residence for a report of a domestic incident. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female victim outside of the residence. Following an investigation, it was determined that Calkins had been involved in a verbal dispute with the victim that escalated into a physical altercation. During the incident, police said, Calkins allegedly spit into the victim’s face and shoved her, causing their three-year-old child to become upset and run from the room. Calkins was placed into custody, and taken to Jamestown City Jail. He will be in Jamestown City Court later.
– Wayne E. Leeper, 42, of Jamestown, was charged Feb. 14 with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child. According to police, at about 2:39 a.m., officers responded to a westside for a reported domestic incident. Upon arrival, police learned that Leeper allegedly held the female victim down for a period of time, not allowing her to escape. The incident took place in front of a juvenile under the age of 17. Leeper was placed into custody without incident, and taken to the city jail. He will be in city court later.
– Anthony L. Anzalone, 50, was charged Feb. 14 with third-degree unlawful fleeing, driving while intoxicated, and multiple traffic citations. According to police, at about 1:23 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle for observed traffic infractions in the area of Pardee Avenue and Crestline Drive. The vehicle failed to comply, and allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. After a brief pursuit, Anzalone was placed into custody, and upon further investigation Anzalone was found to be allegedly operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state. He was taken to the city jail, and will be in city court later.
– Talisha R. Melendez, 28, of Jamestown, was charged Feb. 13 with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree harassment, and resisting arrest. According to police, at about 7:25 p.m., officers responded to an Eastside resident for a peace officer request. While on the scene, Melendez became disorderly with officers and another man on the scene. While attempting to separate Melendez from the man, Melendez allegedly punched an officer in the presence of three young children, police said. Melendez continued to be combative with officers after she was advised that she was under arrest, but was ultimately placed into custody. She was taken to the city jail, and will be in city court later.
– Joseph R. Piazza, 42, was charged Feb. 17 with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and multiple traffic citations. According to police, at about 1:16 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for an infraction in the area of Crescent and Cheney streets. Through investigation, it was found that Piazza allegedly was operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He was placed into custody without incident, and taken to Jamestown City Jail. He will be in Jamestown City Court later.
– Amber S. Johnson, 43, of Jamestown, was charged Feb. 16 with endangering the welfare of a child. According to police, at about 4 a.m. officers engaged in a foot pursuit with a juvenile on the north side of the city. The juvenile was supposed to be at his residence, supervised by Johnson, his mother, on the west side of the city. Officers then went to Johnson’s residence, and she was placed into custody and taken to the city jail. Police said the juvenile has had curfew problems, and JPD has had contact with the juvenile at least five times within the last three months, and each time the juvenile was returned to Johnson. Police said Johnson allegedly has failed to correct her child’s actions and exercise control of the minor. Johnson was arraigned and released by city court.
– After a Feb. 16 incident, five juveniles, all of Jamestown, are facing charges. According to police, at about 4 a.m. officers conducted a street check of five juveniles, who are all under 16 years old, in the area of North Main and East Fourth street. Upon making contact with the juveniles, all began to flee on foot, police said. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to apprehend one of the juveniles. The juvenile, police said, allegedly was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, and a quantity of methamphetamine. The juvenile was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest. Officers later located two more of the juveniles on the west side. Officers found, police said, that all three juveniles were to be at the same location under the supervision of one of the parents. The three juveniles who were located by officers were taken to JPD Juvenile Bureau for holding. Police said parents were contacted and the juveniles were released to their parents. The parent who was to be supervising the three juveniles also was cited for three curfew violations.
CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
– Bradley W. Walker, 67, of Sherman, was charged Feb. 6 with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, and speeding. According to officials, at 6:24 p.m., deputies e conducted a traffic stop on Route 430 in the town of Sherman. The vehicle was operated by Walker, and through investigation Walker allegedly was found to be driving while intoxicated. Walker will be in Sherman Town Court later.
– Joleen M. Keith, 42, of Ripley, was charged Feb. 15 with DWI, aggravated DWI, making an unsafe start, and failing to use a turn signal. According to officials, at about 12:12 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Route 426 in the town of French Creek. The vehicle was operated by Keith, and upon further investigation, Keith allegedly was found to be driving while intoxicated. Keith was placed into custody, and taken to the sheriff’s office, and released. She will be in French Creek Town Court later.
– Jean Cruz-Velez, 25, of Pomfret, was charged Feb. 14 with DWI, DWI per se, aggravated DWI, and failure to keep right. Officials said, at about 2:33 a.m., deputies observed a vehicle driving erratically into oncoming traffic which caused a single motor vehicle accident on the Fredonia-Stockton Road. Through investigation it was found that Cruz-Velez allegedly had been driving while intoxicated. Cruz-Velez was arrested and taken to the Pomfret Substation, and was later released. He will be in Pomfret Town Court later.
– Richard A. Pickens Jr., 30, of Forestville, was charged Feb. 13 with second-degree attempted assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest. Officials said, at about 10:47 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of an altercation in the Village of Forestville. During the investigation deputies made contact with Pickens, who was placed into custody, and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment. He will be in Hanover Town Court later.
– Timothy Luke, 38, of Sherman, was charged Feb. 16 with endangering the welfare of a child. Officials said, at about 10 p.m., an investigation was conducted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. Through investigation, officials said, Luke allegedly did cause substantial bruising to a juvenile victim. Luke will be in Sherman Town Court later.
– Ayden F. Christensen, 19, of Stockton, was charged Feb. 16 with two counts of second-degree criminal contempt. Officials said, at about 5:01 p.m., deputies were notified that Christensen was actively violating an order of protection. Upon investigation it was determined that Christensen allegedly had violated an order of protection, on Central Avenue, in Dunkirk. Christensen was placed into custody and taken to the county jail. He will be in Dunkirk City Court later.
TOWN OF ELLICOTT POLICE DEPARTMENT
– Matty S. Hamilton, 37, of Jamestown, and Mark E. Barnhart, 35, of Jamestown, were both charged Feb. 13 with petit larceny. According to police, at about 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a shoplifting complaint, where it is alleged Barnhart handed Hamilton merchandise from a retail store display, which she concealed in a bag. Both passed all points of sale, and left the store, police said. Hamilton and Barnhart will be in Ellicott Town Court later.
– Zachary A. Evans, 31 , of Falconer was charged Feb. 14 with second-degree criminal contempt, and three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to police, officers responded to a complaint for a violation of an order of protection. It is alleged, police said, that Evans violated the order of protection set in place by Chautauqua County Supreme court. Upon further investigation, Evans was found to be in alleged possession of three firearms. Evans was placed into custody, and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for a centralized arraignment. He will be in Ellicott Town Court later.
