Dunkirk fire blamed
on electric malfunction
Investigators from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department said a fire early Friday in the city of Dunkirk originated on the exterior of the residence as a result of a malfunctioning electrical service entrance cable.
Three pets perished and a family was displaced after the fire at 122 Lake Shore Drive East in the city on Friday. Dunkirk firefighters reported at 2:13 a.m., they were dispatched to the location. Prior to arrival, additional reports for a working fire were relayed and a second alarm was dispatched. At the scene, crews encountered heavy fire conditions, and the single-family home had been evacuated.
Crews made an aggressive interior attack and were able to bring the fire under control.
After extensive overhaul operations the scene was turned over to fire investigators. One firefighter was evaluated for illness and returned to duty. Five family members are being assisted by the Red Cross.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
— Billy K. Mullins, 38, of Jamestown, was charged as a fugitive of justice. On Friday, at 7:24 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department were on patrol in the area of East Sixth and Lincoln
Streets when they Mullins walking in the area. Officers were aware he had an active warrant from Warren. Mullins was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. He was being held pending arraignment and extradition.
— Samaria J. Cruz, 19, and Marilyn J. Freeman, 32, were both charged with third-degree assault.
At around 4:47 a.m. Friday, officers responded to an east side address for a reported fight. Through an investigation, it was determined that Cruz and Freeman engaged in a physical altercation causing injuries to both parties. Both were both taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail.
— Tremayne K Green, 42, of Jamestown, was charged with DWI and traffic infractions early Saturday.
At about 12:44 a.m., officers working a GIVE detail observed a traffic infraction on a vehicle traveling in the area of South Main and Harrison streets. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Green. Further investigation discovered that Green was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Green was taken into custody and was transported to Jamestown City Jail where he was awaiting arraignment.
