CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

– James D. Mawhir, 36, of Mayville, was charged June 1 with an unsafe lane change, failure to comply with a lawful order, reckless driving, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal using of a paraphernalia, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. According to officials, at about 4:57 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an observed traffic violation on Parker Road in the town of Chautauqua. The vehicle operator was identified as Mawhir. Through investigation it was found that Mawhir allegedly was operating with a revoked New York State driver’s license. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed that Mawhir was in alleged possession of 19.4 grams of methamphetamine, four grams of fentanyl, a quantity of pills found to be controlled substances, and other drug paraphernalia including scales, packaging material, and $679.50. Mawir was placed into custody and transported to the sheriff’s office, then taken to the Chautauqua County Jail where he went through centralized arraignment. He will be in Chautauqua Town Court later.

WESTFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT

– Peter H. Baker, 74, of Sherman, was charged May 31 with public lewdness, and exposure of a person. According to police, at about 2:14 p.m., officers responded to the Main Street Beach for a call of a suspicious person. Through investigation it was determined that Baker allegedly exposed the private or intimate parts of himself in a lewd manner. He was placed into custody, and later released. He will be in Westfield Town Court later.
