WMH holds ribbon cutting for radiology suite

WESTFIELD – Those who will be utilizing Westfield Memorial Hospi-tal’s radiology services will notice a newly updated radiology suite. On Wednesday, representatives from the hospital and GE Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The newly remodeled suite at WMH, an affiliate of Saint Vincent Hospital and the Allegheny Health Network, is equipped with a GE Proteus radiology system in addition to a fluroscopy, CT scan, ultrasound, digital mammography and dexascan. Radiology Manager Laura LaShomb said the department is “so blessed for the resources we have.”

The Proteus X-ray examining unit is equipped with various safety features including a hydraulic floating table. This adjustable table allows for better patient care, providing safety precautions for patients. There are levers on each side of the table allowing the technician to raise and lower the table for easier access getting onto or up from the table.

“It’s a lot easier for (patients) and safer,” LaShomb said.

The radiology unit has also been upgraded to a digital radiology wireless system which helps with better diagnoses and turnaround times for patients. Other upgrades include a women’s wellness suite and ultrasound exam room. All of the areas are meant to make patients feel at home and comfortable during all imaging tests.

“I trust that improving the overall tone of our radiology suite provides an atmosphere that helps put our patients at ease during stressful circumstances. The highly trained licensed staff provides patient-centered compassionate care and service. In addition, the department decor was designed to make our patients feel more at ease during their visit here,” LaShomb said.

She said creating a more comfortable setting for patients is beneficial both to patients and medical staff. The patients are more relaxed and feel more at ease. When patients are relaxed, image quality is better, producing better diagnoses.

“As a radiology manger I consistently strive to provide not only the best diagnostic equipment that improves our quality, imaging and diagnosis, but also offers an environment that is patient focused by providing excellence in service and safety,” LaShomb said.

The new X-ray machine and other equipment in the department are GE products. LaShomb said when the department upgrades the machines, it will be easier having brand consistency. The department has flexible scheduling including Saturday and evening hours. To schedule an appointment, call 793-2221.
