Fireside Manor opens under new management

Fireside Manor, an upscale/casual steak and seafood restaurant, recently re-opened under the new ownership of Don and Marge Close of Silver Creek.

Located at 5377 W. Lake Road (Route 5), just a few miles west out of Dunkirk, the Fireside Manor is now run as a family business.

Don was classically trained as a chef at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, S.C., and recently gained his bachelor’s degree in culinary management from the Art Institute in Pittsburgh. He has more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, serving in all capacities. He is now active in and oversees all aspects of operations.

Marge has an associate’s degree in graphic design and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Rochester Institute of Technology. She serves mainly as hostess and book keeper. Daughter Emily, who is a culinary student at BOCES, works in the kitchen training at various stations. Their son, Jacob, works as a dishwasher and also helps with maintenance.

Rich Harvey, formerly of the Brick Room and The White Inn, serves as head chef for Fireside Manor. He was trained at the New England Culinary Institute and brings with him 18 years of experience. Harvey is instrumental in developing the seasonal menus.

“We are very happy to have him with us. We are also appreciative of the rest of the staff who work hard to bring our guests a pleasurable dining experience,” said the owners.

The Fireside Manor strives to provide high-quality food and exceptional service to each and every guest.

It delights guests by offering the highest degree of genuine hospitality and uncompromising food quality.

As for the restaurant itself, the interior has been repainted and carpet has been added to help bring back the “warmer” feeling of days past. Other than these minor changes, the owners are hoping guests find this to be like the “old” Fireside Manor they remember.

In trying to keep things new and moving forward in the right direction, the owners have added a daily Happy Hour at the bar with $2.50 beer and well drinks and a new bar menu. They have also added Sundays to their operating schedule. Their current hours of operation are: Monday-Thursday from 3:30 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 3:30 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Other offerings include half off appetizers on Mondays, Friday fish fry and catch of the day, and prime rib on Saturdays. They also offer accommodations for banquets and parties. Their banquet room can seat groups of 10 to approximately 80.

“We appreciate all of our patrons old and new and we welcome all of our summer guests. As we strive to meet our goal of becoming the No. 1 dining destination in Dunkirk within three years, we look forward to providing you with an exceptional dining experience,” said the Closes.

Starting at $3.50/week.
