Craig Colburn and Richard Erickson join The Resource Center board
Craig Colburn and Richard Erickson have joined The Resource Center’s Board of Directors.
Colburn succeeds Michael Metzger, who stepped down after serving on TRC’s board for 10 years. Colburn has been involved with The Resource Center since 2007, when he began serving on the board’s finance committee.
He is a retired president and chief executive officer of Dahlstrom Manufacturing in Jamestown. He worked for Cummins Engine for 18 years and was part of the original startup team for the Busti plant. He served as plant manager of the Busti operation from 1979 to 1983.
Colburn is a past board member and officer of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturing Association of the Southern Tier; past chair of the Small Business Development Center’s advisory board; and past management co-chair of the Jamestown Area Labor Management Committee. He also is past president of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and a past board member and campaign chair for the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.
Colburn earned his bachelor’s of science degree in engineering and his master’s of business administration from the University of Nebraska.
He said his term on TRC’s Finance Committee has been enlightening and that he is excited to have the opportunity to help guide the organization during a time of dramatic changes taking place in the ways services are provided.
“I am impressed with the breadth and professionalism of The Resource Center’s services and staff,” Colburn said. “I look forward to participating with the board of TRC in tackling the many issues and challenges presented by today’s environment.”
“We are extremely fortunate that Craig Colburn has agreed to commit more of his time in service to the organization,” said Denise Jones, The Resource Center’s chief executive officer. “Mr. Colburn’s vast experience in manufacturing and finance, as well as his ongoing volunteer support in the community, bring a great perspective to discussions regarding our operations, especially our manufacturing division, which is in a period of growth and at the same time faces the ever-changing transformation being imposed on work centers by the federal and state governments.”
Colburn and his wife, Becky, live in Lakewood. His hobbies include boating, hunting and other outdoor activities.
Erickson, the director of accounting for Chautauqua Institution and the Athenaeum Hotel, was elected to a two-year term. He succeeds Katie Smith, who stepped down after serving eight years on the board. Erickson had served on the finance and nominating committees before being nominated to serve on the board.
A lifelong Falconer resident, Erickson graduated from Falconer High School. He played football and wrestled at Thiel College, where he graduated with a bachelor’s of arts degree in accounting and business administration.
Erickson’s community activities include serving on the advisory committee of the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross. Professionally, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs.
“The addition of Mr. Erickson’s financial expertise and his willingness to participate in discussions surrounding proactive ways to ensure we are able to sustain critical service delivery during these financial challenging times is essential to our governance process,” Jones said.
Erickson and his wife, Lisa, have three children: Colton, Kayleigh and Spencer. In his spare time, Erickson enjoys spending time with family and friends, hunting and fishing, and barbecuing outdoors.
The Resource Center has been supporting people with disabilities and their families in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. TRC offers a variety of health-related services that are available to anyone. The Resource Center also performs subcontracting work for area businesses and the federal government at manufacturing facilities in Jamestown, Dunkirk and Buffalo.
TRC is guided by a 15-member board of directors that consists of family members of people with disabilities and community members.
“Mr. Colburn and Mr. Erickson join a talented group of parent and community volunteers who are committed to ensuring the organization stays true to our mission,” Jones said.
