New Sunset Bay Deli opens

IRVING – The Sunset Bay Deli has been a fixture in the summer resort community of Sunset Bay for decades. After months of renovations and improvements by the new owner Sam Bova, the business opened its doors on June 29.

Bova, who also owns the Sunset Bay Beach Club and Cabana Sam’s, purchased the property late last year and began work on the reconstruction of the facility. “My goal was to keep the tradition of the little deli so many people have known and loved while expanding the variety of food and improving the layout,” he said.

The completely renovated structure includes an expanded outdoor seating area for patrons to enjoy. When walking in the front door, one of the first things people will notice is the gleaming stainless steel of the new grill area. The grill features hamburgers, Sahlen’s hot dogs and grilled chicken sandwiches. The new offerings also include fried favorites such as chicken fingers, pizza logs and more.

Kelly Borrello, general manager of operations, said she is proud of the variety of local area products available at the Sunset Bay Deli. In addition to Sahlen’s, the deli also sells Charlap’s Ice Cream, Buffalo chicken crunch rolls by the Original Crunch Roll Factory, Costanzo rolls and fresh-brewed coffee by Premier Coffee Roasters.

Besides the subs, tacos and pizza that have always been enjoyed by deli patrons, breakfast is now featured at the new deli. “We open at 7 a.m. so you can come in for a fresh-made breakfast sandwich or a warm cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee,” she said.

The deli carries a variety of items that vacationers may need for staying a while in Sunset Bay or for just a day at the beach. Everything from sunscreen to snack foods, as well as soft drinks, beer, bagged ice and grocery essentials are available inside the store located just steps from Sunset Bay Beach.

Patrons can also phone in a food order to pick up, including fresh house-made pizza, at 934-2023. The deli is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the summer season.

Bova wants the visitors and residents to enjoy all that Sunset Bay has to offer including the new deli. “Whether you’re here just to walk on the beach, you’re staying at a cottage for a week or staying the whole summer, we want you come in for the things you’ve come to expect from the deli as well as a great variety of new offerings to make your time in Sunset Bay even more enjoyable and convenient.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
