Roberto Fred sets up stand at Fieldbrook

Roberto Fred

How are busy employees supposed to find the time to visit a farmers market? You bring the farmers market to them of course.

On Aug. 16, farmer Roberto Fred set up his farm stand in the Fieldbrook employee parking lot. The first week was a hit with a total of 40 employees visiting the stand to purchase a variety of fresh produce. “It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to Fieldbrook” said Sue Rossotto, a production worker at Fieldbrook.

Fieldbrook workers such as Sue, suggested the idea to the Fieldbrook Wellness Committee back in the spring of 2018. The Wellness Committee loved the idea and approached the Chautauqua County Health Network in hopes of partnering together to get a farm stand set up. Under the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities initiative, CCHN, works with employers such as Fieldbrook to make healthier choices available to employees.

CCHN collaborated with the Dunkirk Farmers Market to orchestrate the successful set up of Fred’s Farm Stand. When asked if he would like to set up a stand at Fieldbrook, Fred enthusiastically agreed to start as soon as possible. Until the end of October, Fred will be at the Fieldbrook employee parking lot on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

“I am glad they chose me to come here” said Fred. “We would love to keep coming here.”
