Rookies celebrates National Puppy Day with Yappy Hour event

Submitted Photo Rookies on the Lake hosted a Yappy Hour event in honor of National Puppy Day on March 23.

Rookies on the Lake hosted a Yappy Hour event in honor of National Puppy Day on March 23. The event featured volunteers from The Lakeshore Humane Society, Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue, The Pet Pantry and Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue.

Each organization set up a table with information on adoptions, fostering, volunteering and pet assistance needs. The Pet Pantry was on hand to take applications for pet food assistance. A basket raffle and 50/50 drawing were held, and DJ Joe Gould entertained the crowd. Tito’s Vodka matched the sale of every Tito’s drink sold. Drink specials featuring drinks such as The Pitbull, Mule Dawg and Pink Poodle were very popular with the crowd.

Donations of pet supplies such as blankets, food, collars, leashes, laundry soap and pet toys were accepted during the event and the community did not disappoint. The stage was covered with donations of supplies which were divided up between the four organizations.

Each organization received a total of $375 from Rookies on the Lake and the basket raffles and they will receive another $150 from Tito’s Vodka, giving each organization a total of $520.

Kris Goodwin, Interim Co-Manager of Rookies on the Lake, wanted to do a fun event that would benefit our canine community.

“I saw National Puppy Day was coming up and asked Mr. Steinberg what he thought about doing an event that would include and benefit a rescue. We started with Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue and it grew from there”, said co-manager, Kris Goodwin. “I was thrilled with the success of our first event. We truly live in a very caring and giving community.”

“We enjoyed putting this together and when you have the kind of community we do, it’s easy to get the support you need to make it successful” said owner, Allan Steinberg. “We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”
