Dr. Syed Ali Haider, professor of computer and information sciences at SUNY Fredonia recently led a team of four students to the Paychex headquarters in Rochester.

Two groups of SUNY Fredonia computer and information science students presented their semester projects from software engineering classes taught by Dr. Junaid Zubairi and Dr. Haider.

Students listened to an introductory presentation about Paychex, visited various departments and interacted with staff members. Student presentations were attended by senior managers. The audience applauded the efforts made by the Fredonia students in completing the projects and also questioned them about project details.

Dr. Haider said, “I am glad that the previous and current leadership of CIS department hold the same passion for working with the industry which made these projects a possibility.”

Paychex is one of the biggest employers for computer and information systems graduates in Western New York. Paychex revenue jumped 14% in the first quarter of 2019, reaching over $1.1 billion in three months.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are projected to add about 557,100 new jobs.”
