WCA Home seeking new board members

The Women’s Christian Association of Fredonia will hold its annual meeting June 22 and will be electing new officers. There is an opening for Treasurer. Other officers standing for election are President Christine Davis Mantai, Vice President Julie Essek, and Secretary Lori Poniatowski, RN. Officers are elected for one year terms.

The non-profit WCA Home is required by law to be overseen by a volunteer board of seven to eleven members representing the community. There are currently eight members, and two seats will be vacated in June. Board members set policy and are stewards of the Home’s resources, including an investment fund, and its capital properties at 134 Temple Street. The Board meets monthly for approximately two hours. Currently, the board is meeting by video teleconference.

WCA was formed by local women in 1892 to offer affordable assisted living in Fredonia. “Citizens of Fredonia have stepped forward for 127 years to provide the oversight needed to keep the Home in its original, non-profit state,” President Davis Mantai said. “Keeping our non-profit status will always depend on volunteers willing to serve on the board.”

Current board members are Christine Davis Mantai, Julie Essek, Richard Halas, Lori Poniatowski, Lucinda Coon, Mary Sue Vogel, Ray Campbell, and Martha Schmitt. Anyone interested in becoming a board member is urged to contact any of these individuals or send an email to wcatammy@netsync.net.
