Area businesses recognized for customer service during pandemic

MAYVILLE — Two area businesses were recently recognized for demonstrating exemplary customer service and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Comedy Center in Jamestown and The Watermark Restaurant in Mayville were both recognized during the Chautauqua County Legislature’s meeting on Wednesday for their proactive efforts to adhere to social distancing, face covering and cleaning requirements to keep their customers safe. Both businesses received certificates of recognition from County Executive PJ Wendel and Legislature Chairman Pierre Chagnon, R-Bemus Point.

“The National Comedy Center was selected for its outstanding creativity and hard work to transform its state-of-the-art, interactive museum into a facility that still provides visitors with the opportunity to learn, laugh, and explore the history of comedy, all while following COVID-19 health and safety protocols,” said Andrew Nixon, president and CEO of the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau. “On top of implementing staggered guest start times, temperature screenings, and frequent cleaning measures, the staff have re-imagined the museum’s visitor experience with a new LaughSafe kit for each visitor. The kit comes with a personal stylus, personal ear buds, and a LaughSafe Card, which can be scanned for personalized exhibit content, to provide a safe, touch-free experience.”

The Chautauqua County Hospitality Business Recognition Program will also honor other businesses with this monthly offering. To nominate a tourism or hospitality business in Chautauqua County, visit www.tourchautauqua.com/about/tourism-resources .

“The Watermark was recognized for its tireless and proactive efforts to keep its employees and customers safe while still providing an excellent dining experience,” said Bill Ward, Legislator, R- Mayville. “The business recognized the importance of table distancing, and created a huge new outside dining area. Restaurant staff go above and beyond to clean and sanitize surfaces between every use.”

The businesses were recognized through the Chautauqua County Hospitality Business Recognition Program, which allows the public to nominate tourism or hospitality businesses in Chautauqua County who they believe have done a great job of balancing their customer service and product delivery with customer and employee safety. The program is made possible through the collaboration of Chautauqua County, County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency, Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce, and Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau.

“I congratulate the National Comedy Center, The Watermark, and their dedicated staff for their hard work and exemplary service,” said Wendel. “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way many businesses can provide their services and products and these two awardees have persevered in implementing safety protocols that make county residents and visitors feel safe whether enjoying comedy or fine dining.”
