MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Lisa Barone, Brooks-TLC Hospital System director of infection control, and Theresa Schrantz, Brooks-TLC Hospital System employee health coordinator, have earned Certified in Infection Control recertification credentials from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc.

The credential is renewed every five years.

“COVID-19 has shown the world a truth we’ve always known — infection preventionists are essential to keeping our communities safe,” said Jodi Witherell, Brooks-TLC Hospital System chief nursing officer and vice president of quality services. “In addition to managing the usual infection control issues such as healthcare-associated infections, flu season, etc., our infection control team is simultaneously battling a global pandemic for the foreseeable future. For this, we are thankful to have this skilled team in service to our community.”

The CBIC sets the criteria for the certification. The purpose of the certification process is to protect the public by providing standardized measurement of current basic knowledge needed for persons practicing infection control; encouraging individual growth and study, thereby promoting professionalism among infection prevention and control professionals; and formally recognizing infection prevention and control professionals who fulfill the requirements for certification.
