Dr. Abdul R. Shahzad has joined Lake Erie Medical Services.

Lake Erie Medical Services, P.C. has announced Abdul R. Shahzad, MD, FACS, FCCWS, CWS, as the newest member of the expanding physician practice as general surgeon.

Beginning immediately, Dr. Shahzad will see patients in the Dunkirk office located at 419 Central Ave. With a clinical focus in general laparoscopic surgery and trauma wound care, he brings years of specialization in laparoscopic appendectomy and gallbladder surgeries, cancer surgeries, as well as practical and teaching experience at a level one trauma center.

Dr. Shahzad earned his medical degree from Universidad Technologica De Santiago (UTESA), Dominican Republic in 1983 as the youngest student to graduate from school with honors, and completed residency in general surgery at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx. As a practicing surgeon for almost 40 years, he most recently served as director of surgery at Ellenville Regional Hospital, NY, a rural health care network. Prior to that, in his role as chief of surgery at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Dr. Shahzad’s department was recognized by Health grades for three consecutive years with a five-star rating in appendix and gallbladder surgery outcomes in New York state.

“My philosophy and a success in life is to treat everyone like your own family with kindness, respect and dignity, and providing patients with the best evidence based surgical practice, without traveling far from home,” shares Dr. Shahzad. “I had the opportunity to practice in a rural area for many years, which makes me a calm and competent surgeon in stressful situations,” he added.

As to why he chose Brooks-TLC and northern Chautauqua County as his new home, Dr. Shahzad said, “I saw the opportunity for my idea of providing state of the art care in a rural area, where as an employee, I can dedicate all my time to patient care.” Finally, he shared, “A big deciding factor was seeing one tightknit Brooks-TLC family.”
