Make downtown Jamestown part of your Saturday destinations this summer
By TODD J. TRANUM
President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce & Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier
The Chamber of Commerce is proud to be partnering with a number of organizations to encourage more people to sample all of the great offerings in Downtown Jamestown – especially on Saturdays! We invite one and all to make Downtown Jamestown your destination each Saturday this summer.
We are collaborating with the Jamestown Public Market, National Comedy Center, Northwest Arena, Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, and Jamestown Renaissance Corporation on Downtown Summer Saturdays! With all that is already scheduled, our goal is to promote the multitude of programs and events as we encourage downtown shopping and dining as part of the tremendous mix of things to see and do.
The Jamestown Public Market is open on Third Street between North Main and Cherry streets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. This Saturday, July 10, the market will feature live musical entertainment from Deep Fried and Dipped in Honey starting at 11am. Also be sure to take the kids to the SPROUTs Tent to enjoy a scavenger hunt and other activities! You can also check out the ice bumper cars or public skating at Northwest Arena from 12:30-2:30; try Yoga with the Birds from 9-10 a.m. at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute or Community Yoga at 10:30 a.m. at Comedy Center Park; the Robert H. Jackson Center offers free guided tours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; The James Prendergast Library is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Fenton History Center offers Jamestown Walking Tours at 10 a.m. July 10 and 24; the Audubon Community Nature Center offers Audubon Saturdays programming July 10, 24, and 31. In between all of these great offerings you can shop and dine at numerous downtown restaurants, gift shops, and retail stores! Then close out your fun-filled day with Riverside Saturdays at the National Comedy Center, offering free outdoor entertainment starting at 7 p.m. and outdoor movies at 8:45 p.m.
This is just a sampling of all there is to do. Whether you’re a history buff, comedy fan, interested in locally grown or locally crafted items, or just seeking entertainment or recreation, there is something for everyone.
As a countywide organization the Chamber of Commerce recognizes that it’s not just Jamestown that has a lot to offer this summer. There’s a lot happening as well in Dunkirk, Fredonia, Hanover, Mayville-Chautauqua, and Westfield-Barcelona! We hope you’ll visit First Fridays in Westfield the first Friday of each month featuring a street fair with vendors and live entertainment hosted by the Westfield-Barcelona Community Chamber of Commerce; the Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber hosts its Farmer’s and Artisan’s Market each Thursday in the village park across from the County Courthouse, and live music each Thursday evening starting at 6:30 in the gazebo at Lakeside Park.
Each village and city in Chautauqua County has special events throughout the summer, along with a wide array of shops and restaurants. While we remain a haven for tourists year-round, we also have much to offer for local residents as well. Please check out the full list of things to do, places to go, and attractions to see on the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau website at www.tourchautauqua.com.
