Mayberry Jungle opens doors in Mayville

Ariel Cartwright

MAYVILLE — Mayberry Jungle, Mayville’s new flower shop, opened for business this week.

For Mayberry Jungle’s owner, Ariel Cartwright, opening a flower shop has been a lifelong dream. “I’ve been in love with plants and flowers since I could walk,” Cartwright said. “Also, there are no plant and flower shops here in this community, so I decided to open one.”

Similar to her love for plants, the name Mayberry Jungle came from inspiration from her childhood roots, Cartwright said.

“I’ve lived in Mayville my whole life,” she said. “People around here would always refer to Mayville as Mayberry. They’d say things like, ‘We’re living the dream here in Mayberry,’ so that’s where that came from. And Jungle, of course, is a reference to the plants.”

Mayberry Jungle will not only be offering flowers, but also more than 100 varieties of potted plants and indoor blooming plants and flowers.

“We also have fresh cut flowers, and will be offering wedding and funeral arrangements, along with items for prom, helium balloons, and custom and home apparel,” Cartwright said.

Finally accomplishing her dream makes Cartwright feel a range of emotions.

“I’m both excited and nervous (to finally be opening),” Cartwright said. “This is a lifelong dream of mine, and it’s finally happening. I am also very proud. I’m proud of both the way we have set things up along with our prices. But of course, it is a bit nerve-racking, as it is something new.”

Located at 36 S. Erie St. in the village, Mayberry Jungle will be open every Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Tuesdays; open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Saturday, and then 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday for the first month. The hours are subject to change, and will be extended around the holiday season.
