WNY P-TECH recently acknowledged Ring Precision as its Business Partner of the Year. Accepting the award were MAST President Dale Gier, President and CEO of Ring Precision; and Melissa Himes, Ring Precision Human Resources.

The Ring Precision representatives both attended the WNY P-TECH National Honor Society Ceremony and Gier served as the Senior Advancement Guest Speaker. Also, this past summer, four WNY P-TECH students worked in internships with Ring, two students of which were a part of a brand-new initiative with JCC.

Gier, along with William Smock, WNY P-TECH principal, and Daniel DeMarte, JCC president, pooled their resources to offer unique internship opportunities for P-TECH students. Students were able to complete summer internships at Jamestown-based manufacturers, while taking a college course at JCC and living cost-free on campus at the college’s Hillside Suites.

WNY P-TECH senior Joel Amadori of Lake Shore took the lead on this year’s award design.

“We chose student ambassadors to lead the project in the areas of welding, laser cutting/etching, machining and vinyl cutting,” said Smock said. “The students managed the project and were able to complete it on time.”

Participating students also included Jayden Chudy of Dunkirk, Summer Hannold of Jamestown, Makenzie Lawton of Pine Valley, Carson Reger of Pine Valley, and Steven Zentz of Dunkirk.

The WNY P-TECH STEM College & Career Academy offers a project-based, differentiated learning structure with specialized educators working in tandem with higher education, business partners and public school districts. Students work to earn NYS Regents Diplomas and A.A.S. Degrees in Welding Technology or Mechanical Technology with specializations in CADD or machine tool from Jamestown Community College.
