MAYVILLE — A Lakewood native has been appointed Chautauqua County’s new budget director.

Jennifer C. Swan, the current fiscal supervisor for the Chautauqua County’s Sheriff’s Office, will assume the post starting on Thursday, July 27. Swan initially started working for county government in August 2017.

“I work closely with the Finance Department when it comes to financial reporting, I analyze performance metrics throughout the course of the year and, supervise three fiscal staff,” Swan said. “One of my primary responsibilities is drafting the Sheriff Office’s Budget. I’ve presented our budget for the last four years as well.”

In 2009, Swan graduated from Jamestown Business College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and holds an associate’s degree from JBC in accounting.

“I’m pleased to appointed Jennifer to this critical position within County Government,” said County Executive PJ Wendel. “Jennifer’s internal knowledge of the budget process sets her up for success as she builds off her experiences caring for the Sheriff’s budget.”

As Budget Director, Swan said she hopes to further financial progresses already achieved.

“One of the things that I really hope to accomplish is to maintain the county’s fiscal position. That has been a huge task, completed by the outgoing Budget Director Kathleen Dennison,” Swan said. “It’s a major element of the county’s financial plan. I feel it’s important to keep the tax base, and tax levy, minimized and controlled.”

Born and raised in Chautauqua County, Swan lives in Gerry with her husband Shane and new 8-month-old baby.
