Hanover talks personnel, upcoming events
HANOVER — A number of personnel items and issues have been addressed in the past month.
The Town Board approved a title change of Alex Fenske to full-time Assistant Inspection Officer at a rate of $23 per hour. The title of Ronald Raczka was also changed to part-time Assistant Inspection Officer and part-time Clerk II at a rate of $22.50 per hour.
Town Supervisor Lou Pelletter stated in a conversation with Silver Creek Mayor Kathy Tampio that the Town is falling behind on property maintenance because of all the needs of the Town and Village for building/fire inspections. Pelletter urged the Village to consider hiring a part-time employee dedicated to property maintenance concerns.
The Town is issuing a letter of support to increase the Capital Account for the Lake Erie Management Commission (LEMC) with Chautauqua County to aid in the dredging of Cattaraugus Creek. Town Councilman Ed Schintzius will be seeking quotes for the preliminary work in the coming months.
The Town Board approved a list of seasonal employees for the Hanover Boat Launch, including Tom Breckon, Manager, at a rate of $21 per hour. James Brauer, Duane Raffel, Donald Mielcarek, James Ralston, and Paul Carberry were each appointed as Attendants at a rate of $19 per hour. Any subsequent hires will be paid $18.50 per hour.
Regarding the Town Boat Launch, the Board donated two season passes as prizes for the Southtowns Walleye Association’s 42nd annual fishing tournament, as well as two season passes as prizes for the WNY Walleye Association fishing tournament.
The Town Board also approved the payment of $3,000 to the Balltown Cemetery to cover the general overhead expenses to maintain the cemetery, as well as insurance premiums. A payment of $1,000 to the Silver Creek-Hanover Garden Club was also approved to cover costs incurred through the group’s beautification efforts throughout the town.
In the month of February, the Hanover Justice Court disposed of 203 Vehicle and Traffic Law cases, nine Penal Law cases, one Civil Law case, and two Environmental Law cases for a total of $12,698 collected for the Town for distribution. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported 460 deputy responses in February.
A total of $3,511,991.97 was collected in taxes during February, along with $1,885.34 in penalties. The Town Clerk’s Office collected $382 in local and state revenue in February. The Code Enforcement Office issued six building permits in February – four in Hanover and two in Silver Creek – for a total of $325 collected for the Town.
The Town authorized Planning Board members Rick Klisiewicz, Lee Parker, John Rogers, David Grandin, and Kaitlin Gage to attend the Southern Tier West annual local government conference on June 4 in Houghton, NY, at a cost of $50 per person plus mileage expenses.
The Board also approved the purchase of a Skidsteer Soil and Asphalt Spreader with a scraper attachment from Bobcat of Chautauqua in Jamestown at a cost of $13,676.68. The Town will also be purchasing a 2019 John Deere 6110M Shoulder Mower from S. St. George Enterprises at a cost of $128,500, contingent upon successful final inspection.
Following authorization, the Town is now seeking bids for diesel fuel and gasoline from April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. The plans to install bollards at the Town Hall parking lot to protect the building from vehicles were amended, as well, at a total cost of $4,160.
The Town Board also received the annual report from Historian Vince Martonis at its recent meeting. The Board commended Martonis for his efforts.
The next meeting of the Hanover Town Board will be Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Town Hall and Court.
