ELLICOTT – A closed Rite-Aid building in the south county has been sold and may be turned into an auto parts store.
According to documents at the Chautauqua County Clerk’s Office, in March 9275 Group, LLC of Buffalo sold 963 Fairmount Ave., Ellicott to O’Reilly Auto Enterprises, LLC of Springfield, Missouri for $1,675,000.
A message to O’Reilly Auto Enterprises was not returned.
In an email, the Ellicott Code Enforcement office said they were aware of the sale and the project has zoning approval.
O’Reilly opened its first location in Chautauqua County last year when it moved into part of the former Valu Home Center on Route 60 in the town of Pomfret, which had closed in 2022. That building houses multiple businesses, including a sub shop, a liquor store and more.
In this case, O’Reilly would own the building.
O’Reilly Auto Enterprises has apparently been buying former Rite Aid buildings and moving in them across the country. In New York state, O’Reilly has opened in former Rite Aid buildings in Greece, Poughkeepsie, Rome and Watertown.
Rite Aid closed nationwide in 2025. In Chautauqua County they had seven buildings – 50 S. Main St., Jamestown; 811 S. Main St., Jamestown; 1166 Central Ave., Dunkirk; 3795 E. Main Road, Fredonia; 214 Central Ave., Silver Creek; 963 Fairmount Ave. West Ellicott; and 40 S. Erie St., Mayville. The 811 S. Main St. location closed in 2023.
The West Ellicott building is the third Rite Aid building that has been sold. The South Main Street building is currently being turned into the Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union. The Mayville building has been sold but no announcement has been made for plans for the future.
