Large trash pickup today in Brocton

BROCTON – Brocton and Portland property owners who are taking advantage of the warm temperatures can also take advantage of a Large Trash pick up scheduled for Saturday, May 10.

Large trash items will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the village of Brocton Public Works Tool House on Highland Avenue.

Charges for trash items collected will be as follows: pick up truck load, $15; car trunk load $5; miscellaneous items, $1 to $4; utility trailer load, $15; televisions, $10; computers, $10; and tires $2.

Department of Public Works officials remind residents that residential vehicle tires will only be accepted in size up to 19 inches and must be dismounted from their rims. Tires will not be accepted or hauled by municipalities from commercial establishments such as tire dealers or junk yards.

All large trash items will be accepted with the exception of demolition materials; refrigerators or freezers; and air conditioners.

DPW Superintendent for Brocton Tom Allen also reminds village residents that brush collection will be taking place through November on the first Monday of each month. Brush shouldn’t be left curbside more than 48 hours prior to pick up. It should be piled on the curb side as neatly as possible to ensure a quick pick up by crews. Bagged leaves and grass clippings are picked up the first Monday of the month, and residents should note that anything left on the roadside will not be accepted and a citation may be issued as a result. For any pick up date falling on a holiday, pick up will take place on Tuesday.

Residents can also dispose of larger items such as washers and dryers; hot water tanks; stoves; metal cabinetry; lawn mowers or any other large metal products to be discarded during Big Metal Pick Up to be held June 9 and Sept. 8.
