NY Telephone Retirees, former co-workers and friends monthly get-together today

The NY Telephone Retirees, former co-workers and friends monthly get-together luncheon-meeting will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Demetri’s on the Lake, 6 to 8 Lake Shore Drive W., Dunkirk. For reservations and information, call 366-3401.

Overdose Prevention program today

An Overdose Prevention program will be presented at the Cherry Creek Leon United Methodist Church today from 6 to 7 p.m. The church is located at 6813 Main St. Learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose and administer Narcan. Free Narcan kits will be available. To register, call 372-0614 ext. 205 or go to www.sthcs.org/narcan-training.html. This workshop is presented by the Southern Tier Health Care System Inc., the Southern Tier Overdose Prevention Program and is supported by the New York State Department of Health and amfAR. The Clean, Sober and Saved Groups will resume the following Monday, on Labor Day, Sept. 3.

SOAR Chapter 4-1 meeting and lunch planned for Tuesday

SOAR Chapter 4-1 meeting and lunch will be held Tuesday at noon at the United Steelworkers Local Union 2693 Union Hall, 97 E. Fourth St., Dunkirk. Retirees of all unions are welcome.

Sheridan Historical Society open hours and meeting today

Sheridan Historical Society will have open hours today from 5 to 7 p.m., immediately followed by its regular monthly meeting. The society is located at 2702 Route 20 at the corner of Center Road. All are welcome. For more information, call 672-2201.

Portland Board of Commissioners to meet today

There will be a workshop meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Portland Fire District held today at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of beginning the 2019 Fire District Budget process and any Other business that may come before the board. As with all meeting of the District the public is encouraged to attend.

Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89 “end of summer super cruise” set for Saturday

Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89 will hold an “end of summer super cruise” on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., at 296 Lake Shore Drive, West (Route 5). The event will feature door prizes, 50/50 and two $25 cash prizes. Hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages as well as beverages will be available for purchase. All antique, classic, muscle cars, street rods, trucks as well as motorcycles are welcome. The rain date is Sunday.

Concert series continues in Springville

The Springville Area Chamber of Commerce continues its series of summer festivals in Heritage Park the last Wednesday of the month. The next one will take place Aug. 29, with the final event set for Sept. 26. Designed for family and children, the activities will include live music, food and vendors. The time frame is 5 to 8 p.m.

Chautauqua Opportunities presents workshop: “Caregiver Stress”

On Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Anderson Lee Library, 43 Main St., Silver Creek, Chautauqua Opportunities will present a workshop: “Caregiver Stress.”

The demands of taking care of an elderly loved one can result in a great deal of stress. Learn how to avoid burnout. Participants can discover ways to take care of themselves.
