Legion plans barbecue on Memorial Day

Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 will be holding its annual Memorial Day Chicken BBQ by Weidner’s on May 27 beginning at noon until sold out. Tickets are $10 presale (must be picked up by 3 p.m.) and $12 at the door. Music will be by 2nd St. Sunset from 3 to 6 p.m. Basket raffle by Unit 62 Auxiliary. Tickets are available at Dunkirk Post 62, 211 Central Ave.

Revitalize Dunkirk meeting set for today

Westfield Quilters’ Guild to feature Civil War quilts today

Civil War quilts will be featured at the Westfield Quilters’ Guild May meeting. Come join us as special speaker, Tim Field, a Civil War historian, presents a lecture on Civil War soldiers’ quilts, potholder quilts and women’s roles in the formation of the U.S. Sanitary Commission. Speaker Field will treat attendees to a few of the reproduction quilts he has made using an antique, hand-crank sewing machine. This month’s meeting will be held today at 6 p.m. at the Westfield YWCA, 58 S. Portage St. All are welcome, members and guests. It’s sure to be an enjoyable evening.

DFT Telephone Company Retirees meeting today

The next DFT Telephone Company Retirees meeting will take place today at 9 a.m. at Demetri’s on the Lake, 6 Lake Shore Drive W., Dunkirk. All retirees are invited. The get-together always takes place the third Thursday of the month.

Gowanda Moose Lodge car cruise today

The first summer car cruise hosted by the Gowanda Moose Lodge is planned for today from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lodge, 201 Aldrich St., Gowanda. The event supports the Raise the Roof project and features $2 Bud Light Draft, $2 hot dogs and hamburgers as well as $2 fries. Bring your cruise ride and have a sandwich on the Lodge. For details, call 532-4882. Cruise-ins are also planned for June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15.

Town of Stockton town-wide cleanup set for Friday, Saturday

The Town of Stockton Town-wide Cleanup has been scheduled. This event is for residents only. Hours are Friday, May 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Deliver trash to the Highway Department Storage Building at 4696 W. Railroad Ave., Stockton. Bring appliances, trash and junk only; no garbage will be accepted. The following will not be accepted: tires, liquid waste, paint, oils, batteries, computers, appliances with freon (i.e. humidifiers, refrigerators)

Appliances containing freon and electronics, including computers, are accepted at the following transfer stations: Fredonia, Falconer, Sherman and Frewsburg.
