Fredonia to flush water mains

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the village of Fredonia will start flushing water mains and fire hydrants in and around the village. Flushing will be done from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize problems with water during the day. The flushing will take approximately two weeks and during this process, residents may experience turbid water and reduced water pressure. The village recommends that residents check the quality of their water before doing laundry.

Ready, Set, Wear It! Safe Boating Week

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Dunkirk Flotilla 34 will be kicking off National Safe Boating Week today at the Dunkirk Boat Launch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free vessel safety checks on boats and kayaks will be offered and you can register to take part in the Ready, Set, Wear It! lifejacket campaign at any time. Bring your lifejacket and you will be fitted and registered to count in the total to help break the International record. Lifejackets will be provided if you do not have one. At 2 p.m., a group photo with inflatable life vests will be taken as well.

Immunization clinic for rabies today

A free rabies immunization clinic for dogs, cats and domestic ferrets will take place Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Town of Westfield Highway Building, 118 Chestnut St., Westfield. Animals must be healthy and accompanied by an adult. Owners must know the age and breed of the animal. Animals must be three months old to receive first shot. Dogs, must be on a leash, cats in containers such as carriers or kennel boxes. Know the name of the township of residence. Bring previous vaccination records for the pet so that it can receive the three year booster. The attending veterinarian is Dr. Katie Ball. the event is co-sponsored by Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue (NCCR) and the Town of Westfield.

Pine Hill Cemetery meeting today

The annual meeting of Gowanda Pine Hill Cemetery Association will be Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the cemetery. All lot owners are invited.

Sunday Family Breakfast

Forest Lodge No. 166, F. & A.M. will be holding its monthly Sunday Family Breakfast on May 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This all-you-can-eat breakfast will consist of eggs made to order, pancakes or French toast, sausages, fruit cocktail, toast, juice, milk, coffee and tea. Adults and teenagers 13 and up: $8, Children 6 to 12: $4, and kids 5 and under are free. The public is welcome and cordially invited to attend, as is anyone interested in, or who has questions about Free Masonry.

Family Arbor Day Event

Come to the Cassadaga Library today, May 18 from 10 to 11 a.m. for a fun and informative event that the whole family can enjoy! Guest speaker, Lori Brockelbank is a Certified Arborist and will be touching on why it’s so important to plant trees. There will be crafts and activities for the kids, and an optional opportunity to help with planting. Cookies and refreshments will be provided. The library is located at 18 Maple Ave. in Cassadaga.

Sinclairville library’s plant sale

The Sinclairville Free Library’s annual plant sale continues today from 9 a.m. to noon at the library on 15 Main St. in Sinclairville. Donations of plants for the sale are always welcome. Hardy locally grown perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees are some of the offerings that will be available. Early shopping is recommended for best selection. All proceeds benefit the library. The library will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. For additional information, phone the library at 962-5885 or visit the website at www.sinclairvillelibrary.org.

N.C.C. Club Associates

The next regular meeting of the Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Silver Creek Overseas Veterans, 13 N. Main St. in Silver Creek.

Benefit for Bobbie Mackenzie Sunday

A benefit will take place for Roberta (Bobbie) Mackenzie Sunday, May 19 from noon to 6 p.m. at the First Ward Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk. $10 chicken and biscuit dinner by Super Duper Catering. Pick-up all pre-pay dinners by 4 p.m. Take-outs available. Music by 6 Year Stretch – Tara Graves – The Untouchables. Chinese auction, gift baskets. Door prize. Bobbie is recovering from a life-altering brain aneurysm.

Lake Erie Bird Club meeting Monday

The next Lake Erie Bird Club meeting will take place Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at the Greystone Nature Preserve (Bat, Bird and Butterfly Sanctuary), 8531 Bear Lake Road, Fredonia. Note the time change and different location for this month’s meeting. Enjoy an evening bird walk. For details, call Terry Mosher at 672-5501. Meetings of the club resume in September, with details to be announced.
