‘Among the Hemlocks’ to be screened at film group’s conference

“Among the Hemlocks. Fantastic Stories from Fredonia, NY,” a documentary by State University of New York at Fredonia Department of Communication Assistant Professor Roslin Smith, will be screened at the University Film and Video Association’s 73rd annual conference in July at Augsburg University, Minneapolis.

The film uses historical photographs, newspaper clippings, re-enactments, interviews and voice-overs to bring to life humorous, strange and factual stories. It was one of 50 films chosen to be screened from among 2,500 entries.

The UFVA is an international organization, based in the United States, whose members include professors, scholars and film and video makers.

Fredonia school board to meet Tuesday

The Fredonia Board of Education will hold a regular meeting Tuesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

Tour a train at the fairgrounds Sunday

Sunday, June 30 is Get on a Train Day at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. From 2 to 4 p.m., all are invited to tour the antique train, have some ice cream and learn about getting a station in Dunkirk. The event is hosted by the Dunkirk Historical Society and Chautauqua Cattaraugus Women’s Action Group and is free and open to all. Contact Marie Tomlinson at 679-7145 for more information.

Barker Library announces summer reading registration

Now is the time to sign up your child(ren) for the Darwin R. Barker Library’s summer reading program, which runs July 8 through Aug. 7. To register, call 672-8051 or stop by the circulation desk. Silver Creek Central School music alumni reunion, concert July 6

Combined band and chorus alumni members of Silver Creek Central School will perform a concert in the SCCS auditorium, with past directors conducting, on Saturday, July 6 at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Fifth annual kickball tournament set for Sunday, July 21

The 5th Annual One Small Kick kickball tournament to benefit the foundation for Prader Willis Syndrome will take place on Sunday, July 21 at Silver Creek Central School, 1 Dickinson St. Sign in begins at 9 a.m., with games beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the 12:30 p.m. awards ceremony.
