Portland board to discuss wind turbine moratorium today

The Town of Portland Board and Planning Board will hold a workshop at 6 p.m. today to discuss the wind turbine moratorium. The regular board meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

Fredonia monthly singalong cancelled for today

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be no singalong today at the Fredonia Grange 1. The monthly singalong will resume Oct. 9.

Villenova Grange rummage sale set for Friday and Saturday

Villenova Grange will hold a rummage sale on Sept. 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 431 Route 322, South Dayton. Donations are welcome. Call 965-4292 and leave a message.

Villenova Grange will hold an all you can eat pancake brunch on Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 431 Route 83, South Dayton. The costs are $7 small or $8 large.

Reed’s staff to visit Dunkirk Friday

A member of Rep. Tom Reed’s staff will be at Dunkirk City Hall, 342 Central Ave., Dunkirk, Friday, Sept. 13 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Staff will be available to answer questions, gather feedback, and provide assistance with immigration, Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and other issues related to federal agencies.

Chautauqua County Beekeepers to meet Thursday

The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will meet Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Frank W. Bratt Ag Center, 3542 Townline Road, Jamestown. Anyone interested in bees and beekeeping is welcome to attend.

B-side Uke Jam set for Friday

A B-side Uke Jam will take place on Friday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at the East Main Cafe, 183 E. Main St., Fredonia. Intended for ukulele enthusiasts who are a step beyond beginners, participants should be familiar with basic chords (C, F, Am, G, Em, D, Dm) and strumming as well as some picking. Everyone is welcome, but this moves at a quicker pace than usual jam sessions. For details, email Jill Reese at reese@fredonia.edu. This is a free event.

Prevention Works offers free parenting program starting today

Prevention works is offering a free parenting program entitled “Active Parenting of Teens.” This program addresses our complicated day and age. With this parenting curriculum, parents will receive the confidence and courage to meet the challenges (and savor the joys) of their children’s teen years.

Join the group today, Sept. 17, 25, Oct. 2, 4 and 9 from noon to 2 p.m. Sessions will be held at the Mental Health Association (MHA), 31 Water St., Door 14, Suite 7, Gateway Center, Jamestown. Parents laugh and learn in a supportive environment.
