Fundraiser today for 2XL

A fundraiser for 2XL will be held today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Wash, 200 Central Ave., Dunkirk. There will be a car wash and food available. Meet the staff.

Brocton/Portland GOP to meet this morning

The Brocton/Portland Republican Committee is seeking candidates to run in the November 2020 general election. Positions open are for two Brocton village trustees with a four-year term and village of Brocton mayor with a four-year term. Those interested must be a Republican and village of Brocton resident to run for these offices. The committee will be holding a caucus Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Portland Community Park. Any village resident interested can contact Gary Miller at 672-9335 for more information. The committee is looking for new members.

South Dayton Legion plans music today

SOUTH DAYTON — American Legion Post 1593 is open and will be having music from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the outdoor pavilion. Social distancing will be practiced and masks are required. Light refreshments will be available as the event is open to the public.

St. John’s holding in person worship

St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dunkirk has 10 a.m. Sunday services during the summer. Masks and social distancing are required. VFW Auxiliary meets Monday

SHERIDAN — The Auxiliary of the Sheridan VFW 6390 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the post located at 2556 Route 20. Weather permitting, the meeting will be held outside behind the building. If not, the meeting will occur in the dining room where appropriate social distancing can be observed. Masks will be required. Members should bring a comfortable lawn chair for outdoors.

Chautauqua lecture to explore art

The third week of Chautauqua Institution’s Interfaith Lecture Series, held at 2 p.m., is themed “Art: A Glimpse into the Divine,” which will explore how art underlies and underlines the commonalities of human existence. On Monday, Ori Soltes brings his background in art history, theology, philosophy and political history back to Chautauqua. Soltes, who teaches at Georgetown University, is the former Director of the B’nai B’rith Klutznick National Jewish Museum, and has curated more than 85 exhibitions on history, ethnography and modern and contemporary art there and at other venues across the country and overseas.

Arkwright Finance Committee to meet

ARKWRIGHT — The Arkwright Town Board’s Finance Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the town hall, 9543 Center Road, Arkwright.

BOCES offering in-person practical nursing programs

E2CCB will offer in-person practical nursing programs beginning in August at the Hewes Educational Center in Ashville and Health Career Academy & Training Center in Fredonia. Exams end July 17.

Republican caucus set for Thursday

The Republican caucus for Fredonia-Pomfret will be Thursday, July 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Russell Joy Park upper pavilion. All registered Republicans in the village and town are encouraged to attend.
