Hydrant flushing happening in city

The city of Dunkirk is conducting its annual citywide flushing of water mains and fire hydrants.

The process began Monday, will take about three weeks, and is supposed to happen between midnight and 6 a.m. During this time frame, residents may, for brief periods, experience slightly cloudy water and reduced water pressure. The water department recommends that residents let water run until clear before laundering and cooking.

Bills Boosters to gather for Miami game

The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins game on Sunday at the Moniuszko Club, 262 Lake Shore Drive, Dunkirk.Roast beef sandwiches will be provided at halftime. Members may bring a dish to pass.

Hydrant flushing to begin in village

On Monday, the village of Fredonia will start flushing water mains and fire hydrants in and around the Village. Flushing will be done from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize problems with water during the day.

The flushing will take approximately two weeks and during this process, residents may experience turbid water and reduced water pressure. The village recommends that residents check the quality of their water before doing laundry.

Chicken barbecue set for Saturday at church

For an easy and delicious meal, try a Porpiglia’s chicken barbecue on Saturday. Take-outs and eat-ins will be available at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church from 11 a.m. until sold out. The meal will consist of one-half barbecued chicken, potato salad and cole slaw, plus beverages for eat-ins. As an extra, raffle tickets for a painting by artist Audrey Schafer, a member of St. John’s, will be available. All are welcome to attend. St. John’s is located at West Fourth and Lark streets.

Steel retirees meet for breakfast

Retirees of Al Tech / Dunkirk Specialty Steel will meet on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. at Demitri’s Restaurant at Lake Shore Drive and Central Avenue. All retirees are invite to attend.

Trip meeting planned for Maine

A spokesman will be at the Masonic Lodge on Friday, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. for the predeparture meeting for the coast of Maine trip for Grape Belt Seniors.
