Lutes runs for Westfield mayor

WESTFIELD — Westfield village officials are seeking election on March 21. Deputy Mayor Dennis Lutes, who has served as a yrustee since 2018, has put his hat in for the expiring term of the village mayor. Incumbent Michael Vandevelde will not be seeking re-election and has endorsed Lutes, who is a longtime Westfield resident and has been committed to serving the residents of the village while sitting on the board.

Also running for a second term for village trustee are Josh Freifeld and Judy Einach.

The Village Election will be on March 21 from noon to 9 p.m. at Eason Hall.

Fredonia Food Pantry sets March 18 distribution

On Saturday, March 18, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, area code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

Historical Society sets first meeting

LEON — The first 2023 meeting of the Leon Historical Society is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 27 at the 1836 Historical Church at the four corners. New members are welcome. The society is looking at a year with new projects and events. In May with the opening of the church takes place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the museum open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13 a Mother’s Day Tea and display of “Hats of a bygone Era” will be displayed by Jane Arrance. The Memorial Day parade to the cemetery will be followed with the honor roll reading. Also, every Saturday the Amish bake goods and craft with be at Gazebo.

PVCS to host UPK roundup

Pine Valley Central School will host Universal Pre-Kindergarten roundup for children entering in the fall of 2023 on May 24 and 25. Those who have a child who will be 3 or 4 years of age on or before Dec. 1, 2023, and have not been added to the list are asked contact the elementary office at 716-988-3291 ext. 3306.
