Boating class set for May 20

LAKEWOOD — The U.S. Coast Guard Dunkirk Flotilla 34 will teach the Boat America Class in-person this month. The Boat America class is the nationally recognized course on operating boats and personal watercraft safely.

The New York State “Brianna’s” law that all boat operators must obtain a safe boating certificate by 2025 is fast approaching. The USCG Auxiliary is approved by New York State for its requirement for eight hours of classroom boating safety training in order to operate power boats and personal watercrafts legally on New York State waters. Students must be at least 10 years old.

Upon completing the eight-hour class, payment and exam, the successful student will receive a USCG Boating Certificate and laminated wallet card. The course will be presented on May 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 1286, 174 Chautauqua Ave. A low-cost lunch will be provided by the Legion or you may bring you own.
